Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Road Trips 1.1 + bonus disk on sale for $125.00

So I was at a local record store, which I suppose I will keep nameless, and I was shocked to see Road Trips 1.1 + Bonus Disc on sale for $125.00. I asked one of the workers there why they would charge what they were charging, and they explained that the bonus discs from the Road Trips releases have significant value as a collectors item. Moral of the story: hold on to your RT + bonus discs......I guess.

Two copies are on sale at ebay, with bids at the moment of $50+ and $70+. Completed listings of later RT issues with bonus CDs consistently fetch $40+. It stands to reason that the first one or two would fetch the highest prices.

The fact that RTs with bonus CDs sell for more than the original list price has made it easier for me to justify buying RTs when they first come out--figuring I could later sell them at a profit if I want.

Meg "the bitch" Whitman has trafficked in Grateful Dead bootlegs for many years. Ticket scalpers congregate on EBAY too. It's no surprise that she would allow these rackateers to rip the band off too.

If GDM/Rhino had any brains, they would just stop with those bonus disks entirely. Limited availability only encourages piracy and illegal copies can be burned in just a few minutes.

It's a good point. I missed out on the "From Egypt w/ Love" RT release. I didn't order it because the Charlie Miller releases of this run are so sick. When I recently went back to dead.net, they weren't offering the bonus disc, so I just said forget it. oh well.

No, but there's a "lock" of Bob's beard hidden inside too! That's the amazing part--he's got so much, he can supply EVERY shipment!

Well, I think it depends which retailer you go through. Don't even want to tell you which autographed hair the Wal-Mart version is from. Ain't pretty.

Just buy your Grateful Dead stuff from their own website. Rat out these crooks, who resell their merchandise at rip-off prices and maybe they'll be cut-off from any more releases...
